For more precise plant breeding

It is expected that results from functional genome analysis and systems biology research, together with data science-based modeling approaches, will make it possible to predict plant trait expression more precisely based on genetic makeup of a plant.

The aim of this work is to predict the performance of a particular genotype in a particular environment based on its genome sequence. This should enable a prognosis of plant performance in the field even before crossing and selection have taken place.

This approach requires large amounts of high-quality, compatible or at least interoperable data sets. Hardly ever can one party alone provide such data volumes. BreedFides therefore aims to develop the conceptual basis for data-driven collaborations.
